Sam Marcy

Sam Marcy, one of the leading Marxist thinkers of the post-World War II era, was a founder of Workers World Party.

Since 1959 when the first issue of Workers World newspaper was published, Marcy has become known internationally for his application of Marxism to contemporary issues.

Marcy's penetrating analyses have made his writings widely demanded. Selections of his works have been translated into many languages, including Spanish, Farsi, Turkish, Korean, French and German.

Marcy's works are some of the most important contemporary Marxist writings on the Cold War era and the rise of the powerful military-industrial complex, the revolutionary civil rights struggles of the 1960s, the anti-war movement during the Vietnam War, the economic forces behind capitalist down sizing, the impact of the scientific-technological revolution and a revolutionary working class strategy to fight back.

Of course, in the best Marxist tradition, Marcy was not only a thinker and writer. He was also an organizer and activist. For example, Marcy was a leading organizer of the first demonstration in the United States against the Vietnam War.
