Critical moment for Mumia Abu-Jamal!

It’s time to fill the streets in Philadelphia and pack the court on Aug. 30 for Mumia Abu-Jamal.

Mumia, a Black Panther spokesperson, MOVE supporter and revolutionary journalist, is innocent yet remains a political prisoner in Pennsylvania. His upcoming Aug. 30 hearing in Philadelphia is a critical moment in the fight for Mumia’s freedom.

Mumia’s recent and ongoing legal battles involve violations of his right to due process on the part of former Philadelphia District Attorney Ronald Castille. Castille served as both DA and as a Pennsylvania Supreme Court judge, and in both positions had a hand in the plot to execute Mumia. Current DA Larry Krasner has struck down Mumia’s recent appeals and petitions — a clear concession to the Fraternal Order of Police.

Over the years, the power of the people has saved Mumia’s life, getting him off death row and fighting for his access to health care and basic necessities as he continues to struggle from behind bars. As Mumia’s case moves forward, mass mobilization is critical.

Mumia’s vast network of supporters will take to the streets and pack the court at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30, at 1301 Filbert St. in Philadelphia. This mobilization will follow a press conference at 4 p.m. the day before at the Friends Center. It will feature an international delegation of speakers, including Mirielle Fanon, founder of the Frantz Fanon Foundation; Keith Cook, brother of Mumia Abu-Jamal; Professor George Ciccariello-Maher, and others
