Honor Mike Brown

One year after Mike Brown’s death by police gunfire in Ferguson, Mo., over a hundred activists and community members held a rally on Aug. 9 at North Broad Street and Erie Avenue in North Philadelphia. Organized by the Philly Coalition for Racial, Economic and Legal Justice, participants were encouraged to use an open mike to express their frustration to the continuing police murders of Black and Brown men and women. A 2-mile march through the heart of Black Philadelphia ended at Broad and Cecil B. Moore Avenue, where a 150-foot scroll with the names of women killed by police was stretched across the wide thoroughfare. Their names were read outloud before four and a half minutes of silence was observed to honor Mike Brown and all the victims of police violence.

In Denver, one year after the murder of Mike Brown, 500 people marched to honor him.
