Over the last few years, Washington has worked nonstop on an aggressive attempt to overturn the revolutionary progress in Venezuela. Upon the election of President Hugo Chávez in 1998, a wave of revolutionary momentum developed. Huge gains were made for the Venezuelan people, especially the most impoverished. The standard of living lifted dramatically; students who had never dreamed of going to school were now attending both on primary and university levels.
President Nicolás Maduro along with many political and mass organizations have carried on this legacy today.
On March 9, President Barack Obama declared Venezuela “an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States” and announced that the U.S. would be applying to Venezuela the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.
The organizations below heed the call for solidarity from Venezuela. We will not be quiet. We must let Washington and Wall Street know that the solidarity movement will do everything it can to stay the hand of intervention. Venezuela needs breathing space, freedom from acts of sabotage and intervention in order to build the kind of society it wants.
National Call for Solidarity endorsed by the following organizations:
• International Action Center
• Alberto Lovera Bolivarian Circle
• Alliance for Global Justice
• United National Anti-War Coalition (UNAC)
• HondurasUSAResistencia
• May 1st Coalition for Worker and Immigrant Rights
