Oakland, Calif., vigil for police brutality victims

An event entitled “Ferguson Response: Vigil for Fallen Angels” was attended by about 200 people at Oakland’s Lake Merritt on Nov. 30. Inspired by a need to heal the community, the evening commemorated the lives of Mike Brown, Alan Blue­ford, Oscar Grant, James Rivera Jr., Derrick Gaines, Mario Romero, Yanira Serrano Garcia, Errol Chang, Pedie Perez, O’Shane Evans, Kenneth Harding Jr., Idriss Stelley, Alex Nieto, Anthony Skeaton, Angelo Moreno, Ernest Duenez Jr., Tamir Rice, Kayla Moore and all other victims of police terror.

This event was organized by the Anti-Police Terrorism Project, a project of Organizing to Act Never Ceasing to Struggle Youth Focused with Elder Guidance Xercising the Right to Liberate our Communities (ONYX) Organizing Committee in coalition with the Community Response Team, Healthy Hoodz, Young Oakland, Workers World Party, the Alan Blueford Center For Justice and POOR Magazine/Prensa Pobre.
