March 15: March for $15 minimum wage

The People’s Assembly Movement in New York City issued the following media release on March 13:

This Saturday, March 15, activists and workers from all over New York

will rally in Herald Square and march to demand a $15 minimum wage.

“History and momentum are on the side of underpaid workers,” said Teresa Gutierrez, co-coordinator of the May 1 Coalition for Worker & Immigrant Rights. “From the fast-food chain restaurants to the big box retail stores, low-wage employers are feeling the pressure to raise wages and better working conditions like never before.

“The politicians at the local, state and federal level are also feeling the pressure to raise wages,” Gutierrez continued. “However, low-wage workers, and more importantly, people of good will, regardless of their income, must keep the pressure on.

“This is the reason why many of us, not only in New York City, but around the country, have selected this Saturday, March 15, to march for a minimum wage of $15 an hour.”

The March 15 co-organizers are the People’s Assembly Movement, New York Occupy Wall Street, Fight For $15, the May 1st Coalition for Worker & Immigrant Rights and the NY Coalition of Black Trade Unionists.
