U.S. activists return from Cuba

WW photo: Ellie Dorritie

The 43rd Venceremos Brigade marched across the Peace Bridge from Fort Erie in Canada to Buffalo, N.Y., on July 23, proudly declaring that they had defied the U.S. government’s travel restrictions by visiting socialist Cuba.

They delivered over 1,000 pounds of material aid, volunteered on civic projects and talked with people all over the island. The brigadistas said they were deeply impressed by the way socialism has transformed all the institutions of people’s daily lives.

As they returned to the U.S., they were welcomed with a solidarity rally and picnic organized by the Buffalo/WesternNewYork International Action Center and Workers World Party.
