Unionist from Haiti reports on minimum-wage struggle

Louis Fignole Saint-Cyr of the Autonomous Confederation of Haitian Workers
(CATH) spoke at a meeting at the Brecht Forum in New York City on July 5. He
announced the formation of the Directorate of Liaison between Community Groups
and Unions to struggle to raise the minimum wage from the current $1.65 a day
to $4.85 a day and to improve the social conditions of Haitian workers and
community members.

Saint-Cyr also called for unity between the struggle of the Haitian people and
progressives in the United States.
Ray LaForest, a Haitian-American trade unionist, spoke about the struggle
history of the Haitian people. Suzanne Ross of the Free Mumia Coalition
introduced one of Mumia Abu-Jamal’s commentaries on Haiti.
